35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

Since when does bread quench your hunger and your thirst? In the desert of life the world offers, the bread makes you thirsty – more money, more things, more sex, more drugs, more whatever goes against what God is about. Always hungry for more hoping it will satisfy our hunger and soothe our parched throat. It never works that way, there’s never enough.

Jesus is the ultimate contrarian.

How does this sound? A life with purpose every day, a life full of love, a life of serving outward ( God, spouse, kids, parents, friends, strangers) not inward (self), a life of peace, a life full of grace, full of responsibility, full of accountability. That’s what He calls us to, and it’s very contrary to the worldly attitude portrayed beautifully in some recent ads about “thanksgetting”. The world is about thanksgetting, Christ is about thanksgiving.

Christ offers to satiate our hunger and thirst with His bread of life. Whoever comes to Him will never be hungry – He will take away your hunger when you come to Him; He will take away your thirst when you believe in Him, when you let Him carry you. The offer is to take away your hunger and thirst forever, to infinity and beyond, with His bread. Just another one of the weird things He does that makes no sense to our physical world, and it works when you work it.  The cost is to give your short time here on earth to Him.
