Genie in a bottle Luke 1:37

Luke 1:37 (ESV)
37 For nothing will be impossible with God.”

James 1:5-6 (NLT)
5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.

The bumper sticker “God is my co-pilot” cracks me up. It’s like saying “God is my genie in a bottle”. Here God, can you come over and let me do this or that? Plllllllllllease?

Nothing is impossible with God – if it’s what God wants to do. We miss that last part. If you’re not sure what it is that God wants you to do, ask. God always answers. Sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, sometimes with a yes, sometimes with a no, he always answers. The point is that you have to be all in. You can’t be rubbing the genie bottle one second and crying out is desperation the next. Either God is everything or he’s just a bolt on kit for your own will. Don’t be divided in your loyalty.

Luke 1:37 (NLT)
37 For the word of God will never fail.

It doesn’t mean that we don’t have work to do. It might not succeed like we want it to, but that’s between God and us. Who’s the pilot anyway?

Psalm 7:17 (NLT)
17 I will thank the Lord because he is just;
I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

No matter what happens. He doesn’t make mistakes, but I do.

I think I’ll let him be the pilot. Ugh, I don’t like it because it goes against my nature, but it’s the way it is meant to be and it’s the best way.

  1. I agree God always answer, we should just be able to hear him with faith… Above all, we should accept his decision not to give us something we ask, because he does it, for a good reason he knows, a good reason we know only later… He is omniscient, and all we can do is to surrender to his magnificence…..
