Wilderness. Isaiah 43:19

Isaiah 43:19 (NLT)
19 For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

Ephesians 2:22 (NLT)
22 Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.

Ah, the wilderness. Wild, untamed, hostile unless you’re properly prepared, and pretty agnostic. It doesn’t care if you make it or not. The world is wilderness, even when you’re in civilized areas. How many times have people failed you when you needed them the most? Bet it’s happened, found out who your friends really are. It’s a nasty place out there driven by survival of the fittest, evolving slowly one way or another.

Psalm 16:1 (NLT)
1 Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NLT)
6 “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

Unless, and until, we really do follow God’s plan, until we follow the living waters, until we make ourselves vessels to carry and dispense that water. The world in its native state is nasty. God brings us peace. God directs us out to be other centered, not self centered. God directs us to tame the wild and make it produce for us, and to ensure that everyone is taken care of. The world says “mine” and “fend for yourself”. God creates a wilderness in nature that’s amazingly, awesomely, incredibly beautiful. Harsh and beautiful.

The world is a harsh place too. God calls us to tame the world as well, to tame ourselves through him, to trust in him, to obey his commands, to bring his love, joy, and peace to the wilds of the world.

1 John 3:21-22 (NLT)
21 Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence. 22 And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him.

There’s no wilderness that can’t be tamed with enough effort, wisdom, and knowledge. Not even the wilderness of the world.
