Romans 8:1-2

Romans 8:1-2
“1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

A law? The law of sin and death? It’s inevitable, death, yes that I know, but a law tying sin and death together? That I didn’t know. Or maybe I did because I know that “the wages of sin is death”. Romans 6:23 Maybe in my mind there’s a difference between wages and law, a rationalization that takes place in my stinkin’ thinkin’ that rationalizes what I do, minimizes how far my actions are from pleasing Christ, from being Christ like. Lust, resentment, greed, all things about me that are breaking the law – a hard, unending law with no leeway in the sentencing guidelines. I realize just how far away from God I am. Why the conflict in my soul? Why can’t I just be like Christ? Thanks Adam. Original sin condemns us all.

There’s hope though because of the law of the Spirit that gives life, that commutes our sentence. Whoa. The sun rises on my darkened spirit. The spirit that gives life and sets us free from the law of sin and death!

Set me free. It’s a simple choice, yes or no. What do you want? Which law do you want to be judged by?  Me, I want the law of life, made possible by Christ’s death, his atonement for our sins. How about you?

Sell out for Christ, achieve life.
