Matthew 7:15
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.”
Why do we even have false prophets? We have an awesome God who is pure love, perfect love, who loves us perfectly. So why is there hate, why are there false prophets spreading lies and leading people astray, leading people off the narrow path?
Psalm 1:1-3 reads “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,…but his delight is in the law of the Lord.” NIV
Why do we have false prophets? Why do we have wicked? Why do we have a choice? Why do we have those who want to lead us away from God’s blessings?
There are those who say Satan doesn’t exist, that he’s not real. Think about it though, why do we have those who would take and lead others away from a God of prefect love? Satan is smooth, wicked smart, beautiful. He can weave a compelling story of lies and half truths, the master of gray. Many say the devil doesn’t exist, but Jesus does – they belong to their “father, the devil.” John 8:44
John 8:42-47 sums it up pretty well in an if/then statement. “If God, then… If not, then…”
We choose to not follow God, it’s in our hearts. My heart breaks for those who believe the lies. Romans 1:21-23 “For although they knew God… their thinking became futile.”
So why do we have those who will lead people away? God has given many people over who know Him but don’t want to follow Him. We choose to not follow God because following Him is selfless, not selfish. We really need to lose self to follow God.
What do the false leaders get out of it? Things of the world – fame, money, vanity, etc. are powerful motivators. Where are you at? What’s your source of truth?
Be discerning and ready to challenge lies. The facts are there. If it’s not in the book, it’s not of the book. If it’s in conflict with the book, it’s from man, not God.
Joy, peace, love, success are part of God’s world. Embrace, defend, extend The Word. Choose wisely.
