Isaiah 40:7-8

Grass houses and eternity

Isaiah 40:7-8
“7 The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

A grass house won’t last forever, nor will a wood house, steel house or concrete house. Nothing lasts forever. Not even what we know as earth will last forever.

That statement is true when applied to the physical world, but it doesn’t apply to our soul or to God’s word. God’s word lives forever with God (no linear time reality for the creator of time).

He can take us out in a nano-second, and He has over history when we get so far out of line that we lose sight of Him, His authority, His commandments, His calling, His ways, His love.

We are like a field of flowers, it looks beautiful when it blooms, it’s pretty when it’s all green, the diversity is amazing, when you look close you see there’s a bunch of weeds tucked in there too. All that beauty, a little “ugly”, and all set to pass at the end of the season.

But we are not entirely like a field of flowers. God didn’t just make us, He made us in His image. Part of us will never die, part of us will live forever.

The field of flowers, like all things of this world, including our possessions, including our body, will pass away. The word of God lives on forever. The word of God is true, it’s is perfectly true. Cast aside any doubt and follow in total security and affirmed knowledge that He is, and His word is, the truth, the absolute, final, undisputed truth.

No little grass houses (sorry John Mellencamp) for you and me, but eternity with Him for those who accept Him. Walk the Word in all you do, love like He does, live large like He does, humbly, in glory, in submission, in confidence that the creator of all has got your back. What a glorious day it is! Thank you Jesus!
