What do you do when a celebrity knocks at your door?
1 John 2:28
“And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.”
If Jesus came knocking at your door, what would you say or do? “Um, wait right here Jesus while I tidy up a little?” “Oh, hi Jesus, hey look, this really isn’t a good time, can you come back sometime else?” “Jesus! Hi! Come on in!” “Hi, can I help you?” Look though the curtains and then pretend you aren’t home?
I don’t know when He’s coming back, but I know He will be. I also know that unless I get perfect real quick, I’ll be ashamed of of the sins I’m still doing willingly. I’ll probably still be carrying the shame of what I’ve done in the past even though I know I’m forgiven (I don’t think I’ll ever get relief from that until I’m forgiven by those I’ve hurt and there are some people who want nothing to do with me because of who I was. That doesn’t add up to forgiveness I’m thinking. It takes a long time to out live our history).
Continue in Him, unashamed. Continue in Him confident. Continue, ongoing, sustained, persistent, steady, relentless, rolling, uninterrupted, unabating, unremitting, unrelieved, unceasing in Him, so when He appears, we may be confident and unashamed before Him.
Holy Spirit, you have a whole lot of work still to do on me. Don’t let me get in the way of your work please. I don’t know when our Lord is coming back and I want to answer the door with “Jesus! Hi! Come on in!”
