Philippians 3:13-14
“13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Straining toward Jesus. Who of us would describe their faith that way? We don’t know everything about Christ or God, how He thinks, why He does things the way He does. We couldn’t understand it even if we did know. Even Paul, who got a brain dump directly from Christ couldn’t get a hold of the whole thing.
Still, he strained forward. He strained toward knowing more, he strained toward living the life, giving up the birthright and privilege of his position to be with Christ. Powerful.
He pressed on, he ran toward the prize. So should our passion be, so should we. We don’t know the answers to all of our questions. We don’t know the because to all of our whys. What we do know though, that God loves us more than we can ever understand, even in our broken, sinful state.
Why? Don’t know. Doesn’t matter. Some day I’ll know. Some day you’ll know. We just have to run the race with everything we are all the way to the end.
Have faith in what we’ve been left with, the words of Christ and the Holy Spirit and run, run, run toward Him. Run for your life! Run to live.
