Numbers 21:4-5 (MSG)
4-5 They set out from Mount Hor along the Red Sea Road, a detour around the land of Edom. The people became irritable and cross as they traveled. They spoke out against God and Moses: “Why did you drag us out of Egypt to die in this godforsaken country? No decent food; no water—we can’t stomach this stuff any longer.
Deuteronomy 33:29 (NIV)
29 Blessed are you, Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord?
He is your shield and helper and your glorious sword.
Your enemies will cower before you, and you will tread on their heights.”
Matthew 18:4-6 (NLT)
4 So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. 5 “And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf [or in my name] is welcoming me. 6 But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to have a large millstone tied around your neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Who is like the child of God? It’s amazing, really, the power, the love, the protection. At some point, God’s enemies will cower because He gets pissed off enough at our behavior that He does something about it. Even the the blessed get dinged when they go out of line, when they begin to doubt the intentions, direction, glory and power of God. There’s always something/someone that gets us sideways with God. We doubt, we walk away, we fight with Him. And then He corrects us and saves us from our own stupidity, and then, through grace, raises us up! Dang.
Life just works better when we humble ourselves before God, when we lean into Him, when we walk on His path, not ours. Welcome Him. Don’t be led astray, and by so being, lead others astray. Enjoy the joy, peace, and serenity of the Living Water freely, unencumbered.
Don’t wear the millstone or be the millstone.
Learn, study, check it out, test it, challenge it, fight it. God will win.
