Proverbs 8:12-13 (ESV)
12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
and I find knowledge and discretion.
13 The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.
Pride and arrogance and the way of evil
and perverted speech I hate.
Hebrews 1:1-2 (ESV)
1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
How do we reconcile a God of pure love with hatred and evil? A big questions is always “how can He allow hatred and evil”? Another question is how can we allow it?
Wisdom is based on experience – ours and what we learn from others. Wisdom is prudence, knowledge and discretion. It’s also action. Wisdom without action is nothing.
God hates evil. He hates pride and arrogance. He hates perversion. How can a God of love not hate those things? They are the antithesis of love, so is it a wonder that He hates them?
What is pride? Arrogance? Perversion? We have the ground rules. Many times and many ways we’ve been given the answers, we’ve been given the experience that should turn into wisdom. Yet, we ignore it, we make up our own, we disregard the lessons from the past.
Now, we have the words of Christ, the Redeemer. Do we listen? No. Does our world look like what Christ tells us it should look like? No. My question to all is simple – why not? Why doesn’t it look like what Christ calls us to? Why doesn’t it? Is it God’s fault or ours?
My answer is probably obvious. It’s ours. God shows us the way and expects us to follow. If we don’t, it’s not Him that’s leading us astray, it’s us that wander off. That’s not about God.
It’s time we quit blaming God. He has shown us what’s good, and it’s to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with our God. It’s up to us to make it happen.
Christ is not just a great man, a moral icon. God created the world through him. It’s time to take the wisdom we’ve been given and use it. It’s time to fight hatred of love. It’s time to fight evil in all it’s forms using the wisdom we’ve been given.
It’s time to stand and fight with love for love. If you’re not there yet, it’s time to get going.
