Red letter campsites Micah 7:18 Matthew 18:18 Mark 1:25-27

Micah 7:18 (ISV)
Is there any God like you, forgiving iniquity, passing over transgressions by the survivors who are your heritage? He is not angry forever, because he delights in gracious love.

Matthew 18:18 (NIV)
18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will have been loosed in heaven.”

Mark 1:25-27 (ESV)
25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” 26 And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him. 27 And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.”

My dad taught us the campers creed: Leave the campsite cleaner than you found it. That’s quite the life lesson and imagine what the campground would look like if everyone did that? Imagine what the world would look like if we treated it like out campground? In the red letters it He says whatever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven – or, whatever we do here matters there.

He is not angry forever because he delights in gracious love. Think about the consequences of the decisions we make. It’s a reality that we’re constantly making a mess of our campsite – we’d never have to pick up anything if we weren’t. Some of us make huge messes that have to be cleaned up, some don’t. I fall in the first category in spite of my best intentions – I’m a messy person and I have to constantly clean up the messes I create. Don’t like it, learning, might not ever figure it out completely.

Yeah, like us, He gets pissed when wrongs happen, when we go our own way, when we leave the campsite a mess. Rightfully so. It is couched in love though – He wants us to come clean. He wants us to leave the world a better place than we found it. He wants us to treat everyone and everything like He would, and that’s all based in love. He’ll chase the evil out of us if we let him, for everything obeys him.

The campers creed in red letters is to do unto others as you would have them do unto you, out of pure love (even your enemies), to leave the world a better place than we found it, to do for the least of us what is right, loving, true.

Let’s make the world a red letter campsite.
