Psalm 32:1-2 (NIV)
1 Blessed is the one
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
2 Blessed is the one
whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.
Isaiah 26:4 (NIV)
4. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal.
Hebrews 13:1-2 (NIV)
1. Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.
Do not forget to show hospitality to others. Do not forget to treat others as you would want to be treated. Do not forget to keep loving each other all the time even when you don’t want to. Do not forget to do your part in whatever it is – for God, for family, for others, for yourself.
Notice that doing for yourself is last? Just like Christ showed us. He took care of others first. Does that sound like you? For brief moments it sometimes sounds like me, though I’m working on that all the time. It’s possible because the Rock is eternal. I’m not perfect, and I am forgiven. I don’t carry around my past as a millstone, but as powerful tools of understanding, compassion and empathy.
We live in a broken world and it’s severely messed up. The answer is not in locking the doors, closing the blinds, and turning up the idiot box (TV). The answer is in the simple act of doing. unto. others. With fearless devotion to do as you would want to have done to you if you were them.
Matthew 4:16English Standard Version (ESV)
16 the people dwelling in darkness
have seen a great light,
and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death,
on them a light has dawned.”
See the light. Go do.
