Faith comes Romans 10:17

Romans 10:17
17. So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Or does it? Everyone has faith in something even if they don’t believe in Christ. Why? You have faith that you exist and that it all started somewhere, sometime, right? But we don’t know how it all started. We have faith that it did though. Where does the faith come from if it doesn’t come from Christ? Maybe, it’s just part of who we are – we have faith in things unseen.

Why did we get created with faith? Do you doubt that faith is part of who every person is? Try living without it…. Seriously, imagine your life if you only lived by what you knew for sure. Will that car stop at the stop sign? Are the eggs safe to eat? Will that tree branch stay in the tree? Do they love me? Is he/she safe?

Now, imagine (for those who don’t have faith the Bible is God’s word), that the Bible is God’s word. We’re asked in 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV) But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him

Troubles? How about getting some security in John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” just as Christ did – for us. Most of the west knows the story and most think we’re all going to heaven because of him and that’s about it. We all want to get to heaven; when someone passes we all want them to go to heaven. We assume we’re going to heaven. Even atheists pray at some point. Why? We have faith. A lot of that faith is misplaced, but we have it.

The words above are the words of Christ for us to chew on, to believe even though we can’t see. To have faith in. Paul, who went from having faith in the god of man to having faith in the Son of Man, who had a meeting of the minds (so to say) on the road to Demascus where Christ showed him what was really going on writes in Ephesians 3:16-17 (NLT) I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.

We all have faith, but is it in the right place? Does it withstand the test of time? Is it from God or man? Faith, faith in what matters in eternity, comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. May your roots grow deep.
