Hope in troubled waters

Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

1 John 1:5 (NLT)
5 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.

Isaiah 58:11 (NLT)
11 The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.

Psalm 46:1-3 (NLT)
1 God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
2 So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.
3 Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!

So much hope. So much comfort. So much peace. It seems pretty clear to me whose side God is on. A loving God who tells us to ‘walk this way (not like the Aerosmith version) and I’ll guide you to a better place; I’ll take you on a journey that might not make sense now, but will then’. I can’t think of any better place to be when crossing troubled waters – or when crossing calm waters. Yes, there are consequences for disobedience, just like you mete consequences out for your children.

There are no atheists in foxholes it’s said. I’ve been in enough, and been with enough people who are in them, to agree. There’s a reason for that and it’s imprinted on our heart. God is there for us when we need him.

Jude 20-21 (NLT)
20 But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, 21 and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.

Christ’s love is for all of us – saved and unsaved, believers and nonbelievers, He came for us all. If you believe, do you (mostly – we aren’t perfect) live it in everything you act, say, and do? If you’re saved, do you share? These promises are not meant to be kept under a lid, they are meant to improve the flavor of life here on earth before we reach eternity. They are meant to open the door to eternity for us all.

Let the mountains crumble to the sea, let the oceans roar and foam, let the troubled waters lap at our knees, our waist, our head.

Let’s build each other up in God’s promises and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let’s need Him. Let’s keep ourselves safe in God’s love in troubled and calm waters.

  1. You can say that there are no atheists in Foxholes all day long. It’s not true. In fact, it’s a lie. That such a lie is repeated ad nauseum does nothing to establish the truth of the claim. Rather, it weakens the credibility of anyone whose faith is served by such nonsense. You can do better than that. And you should.

    1. You haven’t been in many fox holes I take it…. I have seen many non-believers praying like crazy – Lord, just get me it of this one and I promise…… Of course, I’ve also seen quite a few swearing at God for being such a tool for allowing a really horrible situation to exist. What I haven’t seen is anyone complaining about themselves being their only hope and salvation for the mess they are in.

      1. Your ramble changes nothing. Atheists have served, and they have remained atheists while serving and since serving. Whatever you personally claim to have seen doesn’t change that. You ought to know better.

        1. Well, thank you for reading. I only know what I know until I know something different. I do hope that you continue to read my blog. Just out of curiosity, are you an atheist?
