Having been there, and now being here… Romans 15:13

Romans 15:13 New Living Translation (NLT)
13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

I’m on a bit of an atheist thing in my head. Having been there, and now being here, I’m a little frustrated at the general lack of critical thinking extended by atheists. Bible verses taken without any context of the original writings, original meanings, cultural context, etc. “prove” in some people’s minds what an absolute piece of “jerk” God is. Really? Generally, atheists incorrectly claim the moral and critical thinking high ground with “I’ve done critical thinking and there just can’t be a God, there’s no proof” without either. Even though Stephen Hawking knows what happened before the Big Bang, he doesn’t know where all the stuff that allowed the big bang to happen came from. There had to be a beginning. We know that. We all have faith in that. We just place our faith differently.

Do atheists pray for people? Somehow, the thought of really hoping someone gets better, that things work out, that they obtain the wisdom they need to make it through, that the pain stops…. I wonder how an atheist does that. Do they call the person every time they think of them? Do they think that the electrons, quarks, or neutrinos will take their thoughts to someplace and have an effect on the cosmos that makes things happen? No, that’s pretty stupid. Maybe they just don’t care about anybody but themselves. No, that’s not true. So, how does it work? Maybe Mork from Ork, or Uncle Martin from Mars have better answers than I do. Or, it it just “you’re on your own buddy – good luck”? Maybe with some people (“Chistian” or atheist both I imagine – there are some real pieces of work out there), but on the whole I don’t think so. So, what happens?

Psalm 25:9 New Living Translation (NLT)
9 He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way.

An atheist puts themselves at the top of the food chain. A Christ follower puts themselves last (and if not, are you really following Christ?). Self-centered vs. other-centered. That’s Christ. How horrible that God would tell Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. What kind of an evil God would tell anyone to do that? Evil, horrible, nasty God. That’s the same God that sacrificed his Son for us. What kind of love would do that? One that’s bigger than us. Atheists have nowhere to turn for this kind of love. This kind of love didn’t evolve from primates.

Ezra 8:23 New Living Translation (NLT)
23 So we fasted and earnestly prayed that our God would take care of us, and he heard our prayer.

Hope in a higher power is not a narcotic for the masses. Religious institutions, religions, churches have used Christ to further their political power. No doubt – humans will be humans and we’re corrupt from the beginning. We were give one rule to follow and couldn’t do it. Then we were given 10 and couldn’t follow those. How many do we have now? What good is it doing?

Romans 8:37 New Living Translation (NLT)
37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

The moral teachings of Christ are without equal. The plan Christ laid for us is without a doubt the best ever and the best to come because it’s perfect. No human can compare. Ever think why a carpenter from the backwaters of the Roman Empire changed the world?

As I chase atheists from their free rental space in my head, I know what awaits at the end of my time, confident that those that claimed they witnessed God’s work witnessed Gods work. Confident that the words Christ spoke are true, perfect and are from God. Confident that what Christ said about himself is true. I’m confident that God exists and loves us more than we could ever imagine.

Atheism is just wrong. Having been there, and now being here, I pray that they take the scales off their eyes and begin to see the glory, redemption and love of our savior.

  1. Great post.
To me, the absolute proof of God is when I see people considering others before themselves. And, fortunately, I see that more often than not. In today’s narcissistic, instant gratification world, what could drive someone to think of someone else at all, much less even than think of someone else before thinking of themselves? Only one thing: God and His message of love made manifest through the holy and living sacrifice of Christ Jesus.
