John 1:1 (NLT)
1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Stephen Hawking might know what happened before the big bang, might be able to prove it using imaginary time, might come up with an explanation that gravity caused everything to happen. OK, but what about before that? In the beginning there was God.
In the beginning was God, Christ and the Holy Spirit. Now how that works, I can’t get my head around, and yet I know it’s true. Just as I can’t understand Hawking’s theories – and I bet neither can you. His theories might be true, probably are for all we know and I sure can’t prove differently, but they don’t preclude God from existing. I don’t claim to understand how God works, I just know that He does in the same way that I don’t know how gravity works, just that it does.
So we have a choice.
John 6:67 (NLT)
67 Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?”
After watching many disciples walk away, Jesus asked a simple question. When the going gets tough, when you can’t get your brain around what I’m saying, when you don’t understand, will you still believe? Will you still be with me?
Romans 15:7 (NLT)
7 Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory.
The choice is simple. The choice is inclusive. The choice is love.
Ephesians 3:16-21 (NLT)
16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
