John 6:27 (NLT)
27 “But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.”
Romans 13:8 (ESV)
Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
Owe no one anything… Well, my car, my home, my kids college, etc. I’m not cash basis. Yet there’s more. Owe no one anything, except to love each other. Strange plugin next to Owe no one anything. Don’t owe anything except love. I owe love.
Hmmm – I fail.
Isaiah 1:18 (NLT)
18 “Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.
Owe no one anything – and the Lord comes to us and says “let’s settle this”, as if we owe Him something. Well, we do. Our sins are scarlet – ugly, red, bloody. Maybe not in our eyes, but certainly in His. We are in far more debt than we realize, and in more ways than money.
He pays us in love – a love we’ll never truly understand until we see it face to face when we meet Him. Love in grace. Love in forgiveness. Love in sanctification. Just love for eternity.
1 John 4:12 (NLT)
12 No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.
1 John 4:18-21 (NLT)
18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. 19 We love each other because he loved us first.
20 If someone says, “I love God,” but hates his brother, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? 21 And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their brother.
Love is God’s perfect design. We are paid in love, we are to pay in love. We are in debt, and our way out is love. We have a messy world and our cure is love.
Psalm 90:2 (NLT)
2 Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.
