The tale of the tongue.
Proverbs 16:28
“A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.”
Why is it that the tongue thinks quicker than the brain? Why is it that the words the tongue unleashes seem to cut so deep? Why is it that words, once out, can’t be put back. I don’t know. Maybe the tongue is tied straight to our heart and our heart is dark initially until it’s born again with us. Maybe it’s where all the residue of self settles as the Spirit comes to clean house and renew us. I don’t know, but I know I sometimes wish I had a redo button when I could erase the spoken words and replace them with more appropriate words.
It’s amazing that we are led down a path toward righteousness, that we’re even given the opportunity to do so. Lord, I wanna be more like you, so change my tongue, change my heart, change my soul so I don’t have to look for that redo button ever again.
That’s the healing, life transforming power of Christ, of forgiveness, of grace, of wisdom, and most of all, of love.
