John 15:13

Led by example, pruned to perfection.

John 15:13
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Jesus showed us the way to love and live, and he led by example. There is no greater sacrifice for the ones you love than to take the ultimate one for them so they can live. Christ and the disciples (except John) took the ultimate sacrifice. So have many others. Is there any question Christ loves us? Any question God loves us? Do you love God that much? Do you love others that much? Were we not strangers to the disciples, yet they laid down their lives for us to spread the gospel?

What are you willing to do to ensure your friends live? Are you willing to sacrifice everything to ensure they live? Who are your friends? Are they not the same as our neighbors described in the story of the Samaritan?

Lots of questions, only one answer that works. “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you” (v12). Sacrificial love. Serving love. Joyful love. Faithful love. Powerful, unwavering love.

Christ warns us that there are consequences to this behavior. We’ll be pruned to be more productive (v2), while if we’re not productive, we’ll be cut off and tossed into the fire. Either way, it’s gonna be disruptive.

Be disrupted today. Be bold in your faith, carry the love and joy of Christ in your heart as your guiding light. “This is to my father’s Glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” v8
