Proverbs 12:2, 13:5, 14:5 The need to lie

Proverbs 12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
Proverbs 13:5 A righteous man hates lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and comes to shame.
Proverbs 14:5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

Lies, lies, lies. White lies, black lies, lies of omission, lies of deceit and deception, lies. How we’d love to be righteous and hate to be lied to, but will be wicked and spin off an easy lie.

Why do we lie? I lie when I don’t want to deal with the truth, when I don’t know how to say the truth, or when I just want the other person to go away. What are yours?

The sad part is that we live lives that generate needs to lie. I don’t know what it looks like to not lie and I don’t think I can. I sin, I lie. I struggle to get past the legacy of Adam, yet I know I never will completely until later, after this life.

In the mean time, Holy Spirit, work on my soul, work on my brain, work on me, so that I live a life free of lies, free of reasons to lie.

Lord, let me delight you with my life, let me be a faithful witness to you. Let my life be one that’s pleasing to you. Lead me to live a life that is free of need to generate lies. Lord, lead me to purity.
