Psalms 42:1-2 Luke 2:49-50 I am hungry and thirsty in the land of plenty

Psalms 42:1-2
“1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?”
Luke 2:49-50
“49 And he said to them, “How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” 50 And they did not understand the saying which he spoke to them.”

Christ shows us the way. It’s pretty hard to pick up on who Christ is and who He calls us to be just by sitting in a pew on Sunday’s. Maybe only two Sunday’s a year. It’s like trying to become an MD by watching TV – it just doesn’t work.

We all want “the truth” at some level, yet for this matter with eternal consequences, do we pant for knowledge like a deer pants for water? Are we willing to be disobedient to the secular world to be in our Father’s house? Are we willing to be big in a small world, to open our eyes to the lies we so conveniently believe because they reduce our responsibility?

I am not a theologian, but I like to know more about the facts of Christ’s life, who He is, what He means, what He calls us to be. In other words, I try to understand what does it mean to be a Christian?

Some of the basic things, like being held to a higher moral standard because I proclaim my faith loudly, should be as they are. I’m broken but don’t hide behind that. You should expect me to be the Christian I claim to be.

Do you pant for the truth? Are you hangry for God? Are you willing to spend some time with Him to learn who He is? Are you serious enough to be disobedient to the things of the world to pursue Him? Are you willing to break the bonds of comfort, ignorance and prejudice to actually look for God? With so much around us, so many blessings, are you hungry and thirsty in the land of plenty?
