1 Corinthians 15:58 Love conquers all

1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV
“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
Or
1 Corinthians 15:58 The MSG
“With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don’t hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort.”

In the West, the impact of Christ has been so great we assume that we’re just naturally wired to be loving givers, that looking out for fellow man is just the right thing to do, that loving your neighbor is how we evolved. That’s not how it was and Christ changed all that, turned the world 180° – well, parts of the world. Old ways still exist and we see the horrific barbarity every day.

Why do we kick Christ out of the conversation? What do we gain by claiming His righteousness, His enlightenment?

We think we gain freedom by not submitting to a higher power. It doesn’t work that way. Just like we need laws in society, we need the same in our lives. We submit to a higher power or deal with the consequences. Usually when we make good decisions and we get good consequences, bad decisions need bad consequences.

With Christ, works aren’t what save us, and yet they are really important – they show where your heart is really at. Are you doing out of love or striving for recognition? Laboring for the Lord is not in vain, there are good consequences. Be immovable in doing His work, knowing that He knows why you’re doing it. Love conquers all.
