Proverbs 15:5 (NIV)
5 A fool spurns a parent’s discipline,
but whoever heeds correction shows prudence.
But what a fool believes he sees – No wise man has the power to reason away (Doobie Bros).
That song is about Mars and Venus – a man chasing a woman he never paid his mind to. If it’s worked a bit it has greater application as well. Could just as well apply to us and God.
An atheist or non-believer will refuse to listen to scholars, insisting that they are the bible experts, that they hold the one truth. Christians refuse to study, content to be fed, never challenging the truth to prove it in their hearts.
What a fool believes.
What does correction look like? It could be a simple “no”. It could be a “NO”. It might be a 2*4 upside the head. It could be an 8*8 upside the head. It could be an “OK, go ahead and see what happens – and good luck with that”. If you’re married, it could be “if that’s what you want to do go ahead….”
What a fool believes gets done until the consequences are played out. We have a road map of who we are, what we do, how we’re broken, and how to be healed. Most don’t want to listen to the wisdom of their parent, don’t want to be corrected. That’s a foolish thing to do.
What a fool believes. The master will never know what goes on while he’s away. Not true, He know’s now. He’ll try to correct you until He says “go ahead, see what happens”. Many will not return to their parent.
Luke 12:47-48 (MSG)
47-48 “The servant who knows what his master wants and ignores it, or insolently does whatever he pleases, will be thoroughly thrashed. But if he does a poor job through ignorance, he’ll get off with a slap on the hand. Great gifts mean great responsibilities; greater gifts, greater responsibilities!
What a fool believes. Let’s stop being fools long enough to see The Truth, The Way, The Light.
