Light chasing dark 1 John 1:5-10 Luke 19:45-48

1 John 1:5-10 (MSG)
5 This, in essence, is the message we heard from Christ and are passing on to you: God is light, pure light; there’s not a trace of darkness in him.
6-7 If we claim that we experience a shared life with him and continue to stumble around in the dark, we’re obviously lying through our teeth—we’re not living what we claim. But if we walk in the light, God himself being the light, we also experience a shared life with one another, as the sacrificed blood of Jesus, God’s Son, purges all our sin.
8-10 If we claim that we’re free of sin, we’re only fooling ourselves. A claim like that is errant nonsense. On the other hand, if we admit our sins—make a clean breast of them—he won’t let us down; he’ll be true to himself. He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing. If we claim that we’ve never sinned, we out-and-out contradict God—make a liar out of him. A claim like that only shows off our ignorance of God.

Luke 19:45-48 (ESV)
45 And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, 46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of robbers.” 47 And he was teaching daily in the temple. The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people were seeking to destroy him, 48 but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were hanging on his words.

No darkness in him. An absolute vacuum of darkness, deceit, hatred, only the light, the pure light of love, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness, patience, goodness and self-control.

And even in that, there’s a firmness that we aren’t free to do whatever the heck we want, whenever we want. There are boundaries and anything outside the light is darkness. How the foundations of the established must have shaken when he took and upset all the tables when the holy place of light was defiled by the darkness of the world. I can only imagine what the leaders of the day were thinking beyond what we’re told in the words.

The Light is The Light, in it there is no darkness. He won’t let us down, He is true to himself, and He wants us in The Light. Because he is The Light, he’ll take extraordinary measures to get us there too – like upsetting the applecart of human tradition, of human ways, of human error.

Hebrews 12:11 (ESV)
11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

In The Light, the errors of our ways, the errors of our self, the errors of our darkness are exposed. Out of love, He’ll correct us and lead us to The Light.

If\when you don’t want that, just understand that sin will be corrected now and forever. Like all correction, it comes in different levels of pain. Some is humbling, some is HUMBLING!!

Be led by The Light of love – perfect, awesome, incredible, unfathomable love, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness, patience, goodness and self-control.
