Psalm 119:1-8 (MSG)
119 1-8 You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God.
You’re blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him.
That’s right—you don’t go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set.
Luke 2:25-32 (MSG)
25-32 In Jerusalem at the time, there was a man, Simeon by name, a good man, a man who lived in the prayerful expectancy of help for Israel. And the Holy Spirit was on him. The Holy Spirit had shown him that he would see the Messiah of God before he died. Led by the Spirit, he entered the Temple. As the parents of the child Jesus brought him in to carry out the rituals of the Law, Simeon took him into his arms and blessed God:
God, you can now release your servant; release me in peace as you promised.
With my own eyes I’ve seen your salvation; it’s now out in the open for everyone to see:
A God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations, and of glory for your people Israel.
Walking down the straight road isn’t easy, especially when it’s one that is set for us, not the one we want to take. I know I find lots of reasons to avoid the road He sets for me, even after I know all the good that comes from it. It’s just the way I am, the way we are. The road is not easy. It’s the hardest thing you’ll ever do.
If you look, Christ isn’t about religion, he’s about a relationship with God, a life lived in service to a much, much, infinitely much higher power. Yes, there are churches, yes it has been tagged Christianity, yes man has screwed up His words for their own personal gain. But, all that said, the words Christ teaches us, the actions he calls us to be our life – they are the road.
Yet, at the end, it’s worth it. At the end we get to see God, to be with God. There’s only one road that leads there. All religions say there’s but one way to get there, no matter what religion you’re talking about – it’s their way. He’s not talking about a religion, He’s talking about himself and what he told us. Words from God, not words from man or self.
Revelation 3:18-22 (MSG)
18 “Here’s what I want you to do: Buy your gold from me, gold that’s been through the refiner’s fire. Then you’ll be rich. Buy your clothes from me, clothes designed in Heaven. You’ve gone around half-naked long enough. And buy medicine for your eyes from me so you can see, really see.
19 “The people I love, I call to account—prod and correct and guide so that they’ll live at their best. Up on your feet, then! About face! Run after God!
20-21 “Look at me. I stand at the door. I knock. If you hear me call and open the door, I’ll come right in and sit down to supper with you. Conquerors will sit alongside me at the head table, just as I, having conquered, took the place of honor at the side of my Father. That’s my gift to the conquerors!
22 “Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches.”
Words from God that lead us down the road He set are what I need to know.
