Looking for peace. 1 John 4:12-13 Mark 6:30-34 John 7:14-19

1 John 4:12-13 (NIV)
12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.

Mark 6:30-34 (ESV)
30 The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. 31 And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. 32 And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves. 33 Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. 34 When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.

John 7:14-19 (ESV)
14 About the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and began teaching. 15 The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How is it that this man has learning, when he has never studied?” 16 So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. 17 If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority. 18 The one who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood. 19 Has not Moses given you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me?”

He told them to to go a desolate place and rest.

He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.

Rest. Teaching. Compassion. The life of Christ that the world rejects – some overtly, some subtly.

“How is it that this man has learning, when he has never studied?” So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.”

And he began to teach them many things.

John 14:1-4 (ESV)
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”

He is like no one before or since. He has shown us the way; all we have to do is follow. He has taught us the way; all we have to do is learn. He has compassion on us, all we have to do is rest in him.
Lord, bring peace to our hearts. Remove the scales from our eyes, take the cotton from our ears and put it in our mouths. Teach us of your love, hold us tight, break us of ourselves. Guide us through this valley to the room you have set aside for us.

Even today as we go to see Kathryn’s earthly body and grieve over her passing, hold us tight. Let us rest in you. Let us let go of our humanness for just a few minutes and let you in like you ask us to. Let us let go of all the things we hold and embrace you, your love, your peace, your perfect way.

Lord, let us live, if even for only today, in the peace of your love, the peace that surpasses all understanding. A peace that only you can bring.

Give me faith to trust what You say
That You’re good, and Your love is great
I’m broken inside, I give You my life
Give me faith to trust what You say

I’m broken inside, I give You my life
