Proverbs 12:19
19. Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.
I’ve learned that you have to remember lies, but truth remembers itself. What happens to lies? Where do they go? What do they do? I wonder how the course of life has been changed by lies.
It started very early in the Garden of Eden when Adam didn’t have the cojones to stand in the way and tell Eve no. They believed the lie because it tied in with what the wanted to do, not what they needed to do. It was easier to let it get legs and run than to stand in the way and stop it. Lies are like that – feeding the want, not the need. We’re all too happy to be complicit.
Proverbs 16:9
9. In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.
Of course, we’re out of synch with what God has in plan for us, hence the saying “We have our plans, God has his, he laughs at ours”. Wonder why? Read above.
Acts 13:9-12
9 Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said, 10 “You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? 11 Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind for a time, not even able to see the light of the sun.”
Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand. 12 When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord.
Eventually, God gets involved. Sometimes (often) in people’s lives. Sometimes in the course to history. At the end of the days, the lies will stop, especially the greatest of them all that spawned all the smaller ones.
Jeremiah 29:11
11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Plans to give you hope and a future. Those are His plans for us, not ours. It’s an interesting future, not one of this world, and one that will last for eternity. That’s hope. When the lies stop, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control begin for eternity.
I hope I can grow the cojones to stand in the way while I’m here. When I’m gone, I really look forward to not needing them.
