John 6:51 (NLT)
51 “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”
Galatians 6:7 (NLT)
7 Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.
Well, what do you think? Christ says that we’re to sell out to him. We’re to accept the gift of the living bread and blood, his sacrifice and atonement for us. It’s that simple.
As folks flock to witness the specter of the eclipse, I wonder if we’re not being misled. Yeah, I’ve seen one (Tacoma, ‘79). Yeah, it’s cool. Yeah, I kept my eyesight. But let’s not be misled.
We can’t ignore the flipside of eat: don’t eat. If we don’t eat, if we don’t accept the atonement for our lives, of our sin, there’s justice to be mete out. This is very cool, because it’ll clean up a whole lot of bad. It’ll clean up all the bad. A lot of good enough folks won’t be good enough for God. Ouch. We harvest who we plant, reap what we sow.
As we flock to see the eclipse and it holds our fascination, let’s not forget the most fascinating thing that’s happened in all of history – God came to earth to save us if we’ll only let him.
John 6:50-60 (NLT)
50 “Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”
52 Then the people began arguing with each other about what he meant. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked.
53 So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. 54 But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. 57 I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.”
59 He said these things while he was teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
That’s fascinating. That’s cool.
