Romans 5:17 (NLT)
17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.
That’s pretty amazing that the creator would even bother. It’s not like he has to. He doesn’t need us to be complete, he just loves us with perfect love so he chooses to. Think about it for a second. The first Adam really screwed it up – yeah, Adam, not Eve – and left us with our sinful nature. Christ, the second Adam, gave us the choice to make it right or not. A choice that has to be made in the context of our soiled free will.
If you choose the second Adam, remember that:
Romans 5:1 (NLT)
5 Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
Isaiah 58:9 (NLT)
9 Then when you call, the Lord will answer.
‘Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply.
Luke 19:10New (NLT)
10 For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
The first Adam made a mess and tried to hide behind Eve. Like many men, when it came time to do the right thing he caved, tail between his legs.
The second Adam knows our real history better than we do. He paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we might be able to stand tall and do the right thing in the face of all the wrong things we’ve done. The first Adam led us astray, the second Adam came to bring us home.
Which Adam do you follow?
