Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT)
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the originator and perfecter of our faith. Instead of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Such a huge crowd of witnesses. I wonder if we’d think differently about Christ if Matt Lauer or or what’s her name – not Whoopee, ummm – Oprah, that’s right, Oprah, would have had him on their show for an “in depth and hard hitting” interview. We believe idiots, yet discount a huge crowd of witnesses, writings that took place at the time, not 500 years later, etc. We discount an entire era because…. Why?

What are we missing by doing so? Stripping off every weight that slows us down, and losing our sinful nature, that’s what. Why would we want to hold onto that anyway? Yet, we do.

We are promised to be taught wisdom’s ways, to learn the narrow path. Yet, we deny and try to teach ourselves. Sorry kids, we’re rowing in circles when we do that, like children trying to build a rocketship.

It’s simple – any way that is contrary to Christ is wrong from the very base to the most cosmic levels. Is there anything that God has told us that disputes that? Nope, only what we humans have created.

John 14:12 (NLT)
12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.”
