Luke 12:15 (NLT)
15 Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”
Merry Christmas, eh? Last night at the jail one of the guys mentioned a fact I found pretty interesting (a quick search on the single source of truth [at least that’s what Abe Lincoln says], the internet, confirms it) that the top four Christmas songs don’t have anything to do with Christ.
Yet, we have these words from Christ directing us in a specific direction, which as a whole, we aren’t going.
Philippians 4:19 (NLT)
19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
I don’t have to wonder how the gifts under our Christmas tree will compare to the gifts of Christ. No comparison at all. I sing their praises if you haven’t noticed. It all starts with love. What a gift.
Romans 14:11 (NLT)
11 For the Scriptures say,
“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will declare allegiance to God.’”
I don’t have anything to give me confidence this won’t happen. And what will he be measuring us on? Will it be how we’ve used the gifts we’ve been given by him, or the gifts we’ve been given by the world?
Give love. Receive love.
