Promises, promises, all I get are promises. Psalm 20:4

Psalm 20:4 (ESV)
4 May he grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans!

Psalm 94:14-15 (ESV)
14 For the Lord will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage;
15 for justice will return to the righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it.

Jeremiah 29:11-15 (NLT)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12 In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.”

I like promises that are kept. God has kept his, though sometimes we don’t know it, feel it, or believe it because he isn’t pulling the genie in a bottle routine like we’d like him to.

Hebrews 1:3 (NLT)
3 The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.

This is the God who promises us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control today, also promises us eternity in his presence, that evil will be vanquished, that better times are ahead. He keeps his promises.

Yet we doubt and keep looking for the promise genie who will grant us our wishes.

Galatians 5:7-10 (NLT)
7 You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth? 8 It certainly isn’t God, for he is the one who called you to freedom. 9 This false teaching is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough! 10 I am trusting the Lord to keep you from believing false teachings. God will judge that person, whoever he is, who has been confusing you.

Not a new game by any stretch of the imagination, yet we keep playing it day after day when we are dis-satisfied with the answers we get.

Jude 24-25 (NLT)
24 Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. 25 All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen

God never, ever, gives up on us. We are purified through the death and resurrection of Christ and it takes a simple commitment to Him to claim this blessing. Make no mistake, His promises are true.

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”
