“7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. 8 It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness.”
Words. How many times do you wish you had not said something or had a redo button? Why are words so longly remembered? It’s how we communicate and express our thoughts, and Satan knows how we do the most damage. He’ll throw the filter to off anytime he can, then we live with the consequences. Is that how we want to treat people? Guard your tongue because words are long remembered. And cumulative.
The tongue. As far as foul language (and this is for illustrative purposes only!) you don’t go knead bread or make a salad after you have wiped your butt with your hands because there was no tp to be found without thoroughly washing your hands, right? And I mean thoroughly washing your hands! That is purely for illustrative purposes, yet that’s what it’s like when you praise God out of the same mouth you use to swear and rip on people. Hopefully the word picture will stick.
Your words and your tongue are windows to your current nature. I know I need to go back to the sink to wash up again. How about you?
