Shelter from the storm.
Psalm 91:1-2
“1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Foundations are critical to the strength of a house. Bad foundation, weak house. Here we are being told that if we live in the shelter of God, if we live close to him, in his shadow, we won’t have a house but, a refuge, a fortress in which to weather the storms of the world. God = not just good, but great foundation.
A great foundation is strong, it has staying power, it can be built upon, it withstands the storms, it lasts. God asks us to build our home using Him as the foundation. That’s a strong home, a fortress, built on the rules, the grace and love God has given us. It’s a home that is strong enough to weather any storm that is thrown at it.
The implication is that a home not built on God won’t stand up, won’t be able to withstand the storms of life. The world and it’s ruler don’t want peace and joy, Satan wants pain and suffering. When you’re in a storm and don’t have a strong home it’s frightening, even dangerous.
What’s your foundation like? This isn’t a question about where you want to be, it’s a question of where you are now. If the storms of life are tearing your house down, leave it now and build a new one on a strong foundation.
Love, joy, peace, life lived large, are waiting for you in the shelter of the Most High.
