Living in peace with today.
Matthew 6:33
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
What is eternity? Eternity is forever without end. We all know that. Unless you live in a mindless vacuum, you know that we have a soul, that that soul does not die, it lives for eternity. Where is eternity? Where is eternity is a question worth asking because it is where we are headed, and it has eternal consequences.
These things will be given to you as well…. What things? Everything you need to get by, God will take care of you. You have to do the work and He’ll provide what He wants you to have. V25, 31, why do you worry (verses 24-34 are in the link) Christ asks us?
Seek first the kingdom of God. That’s a command. What does that look like? He tells us what it is by pointing out what it isn’t. It isn’t going after what we want to naturally, it’s trusting in Him so completely that we are content with what He gives us, we are content with what He takes away. We trust Him to control the length of our life and are content there too, recognizing that no amount of vitamins or exercise can stop Him if He decides it’s time.
Seek his righteousness while we’re being content with where He has us. Think about it – your world might not be working out like you want it to, your life might not be, or it might be. Mine isn’t. So what?
The two places it isn’t working is that I don’t have the financial security and I don’t have the things I want. See the conflict there? In seeking first his kingdom though, I’m lowering my wants to be in line with what he would have me do. He’s blessed me richly, I’ve “spent” to much on workday things and not enough on Him.
Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well. Eternity in His presence, not in separation. Enough to get by, not an abundance that distracts and feeds the appetite for worldly things. Laboring for Him, not the world.
He commands us to seek Him and His righteousness. He assures us well be taken care of. What more do we need?
Live large for God abd don’t worry. He’s got your back better than you can imagine.
