Romans 8:20

Should you pick up that call?

Romans 8:28 NIV
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28 MSG

“That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.”

Who have been called according to His purpose. Interesting. What is that call, who’s on the other end, and should you answer? For me it went something like this:”Hi John, God here. Put down the drink, you don’t need it.” Whoa. OK. Then I set the phone down for nearly 10 years but God never hung up. I spent six of those years looking for the phone I’d set down, and after some house cleaning, I found it. “Hello? God? You’re still there? Yeah? No kidding, really? Wow, cool. Ummm, look, I need some help. What? Yeah, I know, duh is right. You love me? Still? After all I’ve done? Wow. I need help. What do I do? Where do I go? My way isn’t working out so good. I got into…. Huh? Yeah, you know all about it already? Of course you do. What? OK, I’ll shut up and listen.”

He calls us to Him, we have to answer though. His ways are not our ways, not the ways of the world. His ways are His ways, perfect in love, perfect in outcome, perfect for perfecting us in His image. As iron sharpens iron, so God sharpens us.

Whether you think your life is working or not, God has a better plan for you. It’s true. It’s a promise. Pick up the phone and spend some time with Him. It’s an awesome conversation you’ll never want to end. And the results – amazing.

In His Name,
