John 1:1-5 (ERV)
Christ Comes to the World
1 Before the world began, the Word was there. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was there with God in the beginning. 3 Everything was made through him, and nothing was made without him. 4 In him there was life, and that life was a light for the people of the world. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not defeated it.
Micah 6:8 (NIV)
8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Darkness is the absence of light. Everyone, even scientists and atheists, agrees on this.
The light is life. In Him there was life, and that life was a light for the people of the world. It’s there for us, and we don’t have to live in darkness, so if we are living in darkness, it’s because we don’t want the light.
Maybe our eyes have adjusted and we’ve evolved to be low/no light creatures. The darkness has not defeated the light, but it’s not for the lack of trying.
Why do we have so many “issues” today? Because we’re fumbling around in the darkness.
Imagine if we’d been living like Christ has called us? Matthew 25:35 “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”
You, me, us – not an elected officials patronage hire. Not a bureaucrat sitting on their pension you pay for. Not an underpaid social worker you barely pay for. You. Imagine who’d be marginalized today. Not many. It does take a village, and it takes the right kind of village.
Christ is the light and the darkness will not defeat it. Walk humbly with your Lord and savior. As you’ve done for the least of these you’ve done for me.
Some of your favorite verses. Love this dad, thanks for the reminder. Writing John 1:5 on my arm today.
