Psalm 84:11(ESV)
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
the Lord bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does he withhold
from those who walk uprightly.
The sun and the shield. Both, at the same time. How cool is that? He give us the light we need to see clearly. He brings light to the ways of the world and His ways. He shields us from the ways of the world and brings us under His protection.
He gives us what we need to survive – when we walk uprightly, when we walk with Him. If not, we need to run for cover from his light, or cover ourselves with SPF30 (SPF50 if you’re a pasty blonde like me) so we don’t get burned. We try to cover ourselves from his light with things of the world and it doesn’t work.
He is the sun – bright, pure, constant, the source of life. He is the shield from all the things of the world. The sun and the shield.
