Psalms 5:11-12
11. But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. 12. For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield.
Isaiah 30:21 (NLT)
21 Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, this is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.
Evil exists. I can’t imagine the pain that most people in Las Vegas and all over the country are dealing with right now. My heart and prayers go out to all of these strangers and their families. It’s a senseless, heartless tragedy and it hurts all of us. Same for the families in Chicago, who in a month’s time lose as many people to senseless violence. It’s senseless to us, but not to the persons committing it. They have their sad, twisted, debased morals that say it’s OK. The moral relativists should be very comfortable with that as it’s the natural conclusion of their reasoning unless they somehow temper it with a moral foundation of some sort (which negates the argument of moral relativism).
Fact also is, there were also some that just don’t really care that there are those in pain and just want to get back to doing what they were doing before some psycho ruined it for them. That too is really messed up. Evil exists and it’s in all of us. We would like to think it doesn’t, by it does. We might not go kill someone, but we will kill them in our thoughts for our own (perfectly fine) reasons.
There is the only answer that will bring us the peace and safety we’re looking for, and we won’t find it in ourselves. We’ll find it in the words of the bible, especially in the red letters, in the words of Christ.
God grieves when we hurt each other. He has done everything he can to get us to understand. He gave his only child. He gave Christ to a horrible, tortured, vile death. He gave his only child for us, for our release from the evil of this world, for our armour to battle the evil of this world, for us to radically transform this world to move closer to His image of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We still try to find our own way, defenseless in a land full of evil.
Romans 12:2 (NLT)
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Evil exists. It has to, or else good wouldn’t. We have free will to choose. Evil can, and will, be defeated, and it will linger in the souls who are trapped there. We have to strap on our full armor of God and fight the good fight, fight the correct fight with the correct tools and moral foundation. There’s only one place to find that, one warrior to follow, and that’s Christ.
Psalm 99:9 (NLT)
9 Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain in Jerusalem, for the Lord our God is holy!
