Proverbs 19:11 (ESV)
11. Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.
Whoa Nellie!!!! Slow to anger! His glory to overlook an offense. If we needed any clarity to how far we’re getting away from God, we need look no farther than these words. So many folks are ready to scream racism, pull a gun, call an attorney, run to HR (or express their puckerbutted displeasure in some form) at the slightest provocation. And feel perfectly good, justified, and right about doing it. Someone slighted me! Harumph, I’ll show you how danged important I am! Really? It is such a worldly reaction, so devoid of sacrificial love, wisdom, or control. Slow to anger….
God has a different plan.
Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 (ESV)
I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.
Hebrews 10:24 (NLT)
24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.
Whoa Nellie! Doesn’t that seem like a better way forward?
