Proverbs 23:4-5 (NLT)
4 Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich.
Be wise enough to know when to quit.
5 In the blink of an eye wealth disappears,
for it will sprout wings
and fly away like an eagle.
In the blink of an eye we go from here to somewhere. It’s actually pretty cool when you think about it. For those who insist that we’re just blobs of junk and when we die that’s it, good luck with that. Maybe a life spent filling your soul with stuff you can’t take with you will be good enough. I know it won’t be. In the blink of an eye we won’t have anything left. Hearse’s don’t have UHauls.
There is a better way forward. It’s not about us first, but about us last. That paradigm shift brings love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. It brings hope.
Philippians 3:13-14 (NLT)
13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
The prize matters. The prize is important. The prize is eternal.
Mark 1:15 (NLT)
15 “The time promised by God has come at last!” he announced. “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!”
In the blink of an eye, everything changed. Believe the good news.
