What does it mean to love God with all your heart?
Deuteronomy 6:5-7 (NLT)
5 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. 6 And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. 7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.
Matthew 6:33 (NLT)
33 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
The days are filled with everything that gets in the way – our stuff. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else… Seek first the Kingdom of God. Of God.
I’ll go out on a limb here (but it’s a thick limb) and say that we actually do this – we seek first the kingdom of god – our god. Small g. We get busy with our stuff first. We’re seeking the things of the world. We’re surviving in the world.
Most of us fail at seeking first the Kingdom of big G God.
John 14:15-18 (NLT)
15 “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. 18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.”
Christ is not saying do my commandments and I’ll love you. He’s saying if you love me, doing the commandments will come naturally. If we love Christ, if we love God, we’ll be seeking him first, seeking his way, seeking his wisdom, seeking his path for us.
Seeking first. Loving Him with all our heart.
Ephesians 1:15-18 (NLT)
15 Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere, 16 I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, 17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called, and the rich and glorious inheritance he has given to his holy people.
